Sunroof conversion
I would like to convert my power sunroof to manual. I know it can be done, what is the exact procedure for this? Part numbers to complete the job would be helpful. Thanks in advance

If you have a pre 87 car (they changed the sunroof in I think spring of '86), it is very straightforward. It looks like you have a pre 1985.5 car from your signature.
I believe all you need are parts from a 924 or '83 944. I believe that consists of the two rear latches and latch receivers. If you want to do a "full" conversion consider removing the heavy motor assembly - resides in the left rear quarter and has about a 5' long worm gear (goes all the way to the roof and to the right side) you need to pull out of the B-pillar. |

All you need is the manual latches and receivers. Pretty easy, just unscrew and screw back in. Nothing else to it.
944online has a kit, little on the pricy side, but it is everything needed to convert. |

My sarcasm-o-meter is beeping.....
![]() Yes, it is possible to do it on an '87. I believe you may need to make some modification to the sunroof panel itself, as well as get a new interior liner for the sunroof panel. Search this forum. This topic has been discussed several times along with tutorials I believe. |

The sunroof panel will need to be cut, or try and find a manual sunroof panel. I found a manual panel with roof local for $50. I could not find any used latches so I bought mine from the dealer. I over paid but I really wanted them, and they're new! Now I see them used all the time from $75 to $150. You can also just open the back like in auto tilt mode. The manual panel has a strap with a button that you snap on when the roof is tilted.

[QUOTE=CHICKS;6643076] The manual panel has a strap with a button that you snap on when the roof is tilted.______________ +1 Very important that you install that strap.

sunroof conversion
I converted my 1987 to manual. Best move I ever made. It is very simple. Nothing to be cut. Just find a set of manual latches, and remove the lifting arms. I think you have to remove the plastic around the lifting arms. No need to remove the lifting motor or related parts. The screw holes for the latches are already in the sunroof.

Thanks, guys! You are the greatest. I'll try and document it when I start.
