Help Needed!!! Installing 968 Door Mirror Kit

I just brought the 968 door mirror kit from Rose Passion nice kit as seems to be but I am having a great deal of trouble mounting the base to the mirror housing...I have tried making a tool as per Rennlist's write up to no avail. I also tried using a bench vise to do it as well but still can not for the life of me get the spring to compress far enough...Any suggestions or tips?
