88 944 heater rod

Hello all.
1988 944 Base. Plastic clip on longer heater door rod broken. I started car, moved the temperature control on dash. I was hoping to see rod move, even though clip was not attached.
Rod did not move at all.
Once I replace clip, what should my next step be??
Thank you.

If I'm not mistaken, A/C controls in your year are governed by either vacuum or electrical motors, unlike the yearly models - with cables.

I fixed it. Got new clip. Pushed rod up and popped it in the new clip. Added metal retainer.
Started car and rod stayed up, allowing cool air inside.
All good now.

Which one is which? I get confused about the two of them. Which clip I mean…

Where did you source the clip, from our host?

Actually, I sourced from 944online. I get most everything from Pelican though. I will almost guarantee the Pelican has this item.
The rod closer to the firewall is defroster.
The the rod further back toward the console is the flap to control heat. I pushed the rod up, and attached rod in new attachment clip. Slid metal retainer over plastic clip.

Very helpful, are you able to attach a photo? I’m trying to sort out a similar problem with my 1981 924. My cabin control panel works but no heat just cold air in the cabin.

OP's car is with newer A/C controls, which differ from yearly models.

Your controls are directly cable activated. The heat one runs to a valve that is inconveniently located between the engine and firewall.

Good write up here: https://944foot2thefloor.blogspot.com/2009/09/how-to-repair-heater-control-valve-on.html?m=1

Also, if you find the plastic lever on the heater valve is broken, it is likely that someone pushed the hot lever all the way over to the right. You should push it only until resistance is met.
