Porsche 944 na throttle cam?
ok so I'm new to the porsche 944 world and this is my first project car and I'm just wondering, because I've heard this part mentioned. Why is it better than the stock part and what does it do? Sorry if its a noob question

It changes the ratio between the throttle plate opening and the amount you push the gas pedal. Basically it gives the feeling of the car having better throttle response by opening the throttle plate quicker.

^^ Yep. Although at a certain point (past 50% throttle maybe) the ratio is the same between stock and the circular version, as the stock one is circular with an identical radius (or close) after that point. The stock one gives much more control at the pedal for low throttle cruising, stop/go, etc.

It feels easier to drive in stop and go traffic, leaving lights, and it helped me with super steep hills. |

Lots of discussion:
Throttle Response Cam? I use one on the '87, I can get away at a light a bit sooner ---- just before the VW Beetle hits me in the rear ![]() It is not necessary on the '88. GL & welcome, John

I installed one on my '87 and it's a noticeable difference in the lower rpm range, mostly around town and in stop and go traffic.

VERY noticeable difference driving - the stock throttle cam the car has no guts at all at much of any part-throttle position. With the new cam it opens differently and there is useable power at any throttle position (no power added to engine, but it is more readily there)
I might have one laying around somewhere if you want one, cheap. |

The '88 924S & 944 have 160HP compared to the '87 & earlier 924S & 944s at 150HP
The engine displacement is the same at 2479cc (2.5) for all models. The car just gets off the line easier. Just FYI, the throttle cam will decrease your mileage, not that the price of gas is an issue driving a Porsche.... John

There are many members who could answer your question better than me if it would help on the track.
In the 944-Spec rules...paragraph/# 12-1 ....The throttle body must remain stock. http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/944_spec_rules.pdf More, You can modify your old throttle cam to act like the "improved" $40 version--paint it red if you like...
