Temperature switch (I think that's what it's called) is Stuck!
I spent the better part of the afternoon gaining access to the temperature switch in my '87 924s (radiator) only to watch it turn and torment me endlessly. Translation: it ain't comin' out.
Did I do something wrong? Is this a 'turn and twist' task? I'm just not sure what to do next so, any advice/tutorial/get-with-the-program info would be greatly appreciated. Roger C Last edited by curtisr; 04-08-2012 at 04:59 PM.. Reason: avoid confusion (me mostly) |

It's threaded in there...IIRC brass insert in the radiator plastic...if it's just turning it might be a stuck thread and the insert is spinning in the plastic...any leak?

v2rocket_aka944 is correct as usual.
The coolant should be drained and I remove the 2 fans & shroud to get access to the fan switch. You will have to check the threads on the radiator. If the threads have been cross threaded and now are shallow, you can salvage the radiator by using JB Weld on the radiator threads and the fan switch--just a thin coat. It will seal and you will still be able to remove it in the future. Use the OEM gasket. ![]() GL John

I did not know that there was an insert. Thanks you two.
I suspect that the insert is spinning but it, at leas,t is not a wonky spin.. In the event that that is the case, any suggestions? Roger C |

I would pry up the fan switch with a thin blade and try to turn it out.

Thermo switch removal update
I tried to pry up and turn the switch but, no luck. So, I then tried inserting a set-screw which gave me the needed results.
![]() Here are some pictures. I think it's easy to tell why the switch failed and, for that matter, why the nut spun. Thanks again to everyone who offered a suggestion. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
