hey guys,
I just bought a new belt tensioning tool, and I was reading through the papers and it said to install the belt with the cam tdc and the crank 10 degrees ccw of tdc. I'm just wondering if the paper is wrong because why would you retard timing 10 degrees??wouldn't it be safe to run it at zero(or for more power, advance it??)??? It's really weird reading up on it through the papers they gave me with the tool, and I would like to know (those of you w/a workshop manual) if Porsche recommended something different. ![]() |

No, the instructions do NOT say that. You only TENSION the belt with the belt backed off 1 1/2 cam teeth. The belt should always be installed at OT (TDC) on the flywheel and the cam timing mark lined up. Always rotate the engine twice after every adjustment and re-check. Also ALWAYS hold the adjuster pulley nut with a wrench when tightening the locking nut.
