968 and 944 rear hatch compatibility
I have a 92 968 coupe in Houston. My rear hatch is creaking at the top left hinge point. Not the hinge but the glass is starting to separate from the metal frame near the hinge.
Two questions- Will a 944 rear hatch glass and frame be s suitable replacement for my hatch- of course I will want to change over the 968 wing and side trim pieces instead of the rubber 944 spoiler. The real question is, are the glass, frame, hinges and lockposts all compatible from a late 944 to a 968. I have some indication that they are because I saw that someone replace their 944 hatch with a 968 hatch and seemingly had no problems. If they are compatilble I am sure I stand a much better chance of getting a replacement from a 944 than a 968 Can someone direct me to a Pelican Parts tutorial that outlines the steps to repair or reseal a hatch. Luckily thus far there are no leaks in the hatch. Thanks |

See Clark's Garage Home Page for the rear hatch repair.
Garage shop manual, choose "H", Choose Rear Hatch, and go to BODY-17, Rear Hatch - Squeaking

Thanks,
The Clarks Garage tutorial is helpful. Does anyone know if the 968 and 944 rear hatches are compatible? |

You can swap the whole units over. You cannot put the 968 trim on a 944 hatch as the glass and the frames are different. Unless you use a 91 S2 hatch....
