Oil Pan Bolt Specs.
Can anyone tell me the part number or specs for the oil pan bolts. I thought I read that there were different lengths, depending on which hole they occupy. So for clairification I am talking about the drivers' side rear bolt. If that is not the case, please let me know.
I was under there yesterday and noticed that 5 of the rear bolts were getting a full turn before even hitting the 3-ft/lb torque mark and one was missing compeltely. Explains some of my leaks. Any assistance is appreciated. For the record, this is for a 944 Turbo 1986.

you can go to www.clarks-garage.com it can help you. but heres what it says
Install the pan onto the crankcase using the mounting bolts but, do no fully tighten the bolts. Once all the bolts are installed tighten them using the torque specs and sequence shown below: Step 1 - Install bolts Step 2 - 4 Nm (3 ft-lbs) Step 3 - 8 Nm (6 ft-lbs) ![]()

The torque specs are not the problem. I need the specs on the missing bolt, i.e. length, thread count etc.., so I can get my hands a new one.

Use the PET or when I get home I can measure it. I have them all (from both engines) sitting on my workbench. I think it's a 6mm (M6) bolt.

You lost me at PT. What is that? I was going to swing by Curry's or Dulles Int'l Motor Sport(two local Porsche Shops), but I want to make sure I get the rigth lenght and thread pitch.
Let me know what you find out Steve.

The PET. Sorry for the mistype. The long ones are M6 x 50 (900 075 344 02) The short ones are M6 x 25 (900 075 341 02).
Now I don't need to do it at home ![]()

There are 4 M6x50 and 18 M6x25 bolts that hold the oil pan on.

FWIW I had to torque the gasket at stage 1 several times because it kept compressing. I have no leaks now. When you are finally done, come back in a few hours and just double check them.

I got the washers and bolts, and installed. There were a total of three missing, two under the oil pressure sending unit bracket. All is well!! Thanks
PS....do these have a habit of coming loose? |

Bolts have a way of getting loose at just the wrong time. There may be something going on with the engine, either hot/cold extremes, or rough running/excessive vibration leading to loose/lost bolts, either that or a rushed mechanic not waiting between torque sequence, to allow for the pan gasket to "squish down"
Red-baron has the right idea. I remember putting my pan gasket on cold in the morning and having to wait between 20-30 minutes between torque sequences to allow the gasket to "squish into place" before the little bolts bottomed out on the gasket's metal sleeves on the final torque.
