1986 Porsche 944 RPM Issues

1986 Porsche 944 Turbo
Auto Transmission

Good morning,

I use my car as a driver and it seems to run just fine except for one issue. While driving the engine seems to max out around 4k rpms. When I take off from a complete stop, I usually have to shift right at 18mph which puts the rmps at roughly 3500. While shifting through the gears the car treats 4k rpms as if it were 7k. Could this be a bad sensor? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Huh. I didn't know they ever produced a 944 Turbo with an automatic. You sure your car is a Turbo?

The cars have a rev limiter that kicks in at about 6,400 RPM.

If yours won't rev higher than 4,000 RPM, I'd think it was a tune-up issue, or maybe an obstruction in the fuel system - like a clogged fuel filter or something.

No ROW or US/CDN 951 auto were ever produce. If the OP does have an auto 951someone when to a great length of trouble to do such a conversion.Other options is that the car started life as an 944 NA auto & a 951 motor was drop in the engine bay which again doesn't make any sense.Btw soggy & fog up here for the last couple couple days will need you to send me some.

I found a similar old post that may apply:

Power loss at 4800 rpm
