front speakers

Does anyone have any suggestions for front speakers as far as which ones will fit as far as depth. I would prefer not to do any modification if possible. Not looking for any elaborate sound system, just something that sounds as decent as can be gotten form the standard 4x6 speaker.

I put these in about 3 years ago, w/out the fancy cover plate of course. They sound great, but then again I'm not running any bass through them...
Blaupunkt GTx462 4x6m 2-way car speakers For metric 4"x6" openings in European vehicles at Crutchfield.com

I think you can still get them from either SonicElectronix or some BP outlet in Indiana somewhere if I remember correctly

The PO put in a set of 4X6's with a round tweeter in the center. With the speaker grill covering the speaker, it was compressed on the tweeter and was causing noise issues. I took the grill off, cut a round hole to allow the tweeter to extend through the grill, repainted the grill and now it's great. Even looks like it should have been that way all along.

I have alpines and polks , the alpines fit with stock grills but dont sound too good the polks however sound amazing but you need late style grills to clear the tweeters.

I also installed the Blau GTx 462's. They were the only ones that seemed to fit best - I also placed four 1/8" thick rubber washers between speaker plate and stock speaker cover to raise the cover off the tweeter a little. Cover is flush with door panel. Sound is decent - I also am not running any bass. Original blau's in rear are still in fine shape. Receiver is Alpine CDE-123. I plan to install the Alpine Power Pack as soon as I can figure out where to put it...the sound with the Power Pack was improved.

+1 The PO had some Infinity's installed in the doors that actually sounded good. But I went ahead and replaced them when I did the rest of my audio, just for consistency's sake. Polk MM series all around (4x6 front, 6.5" rear) and I'm very happy with the result.
