Power door lock removal...now manual lock doesn't work?
Gang, I'm totally stumped. Both locks were working well manually even with the power units installed. Then I stripped the tempermental, aftermarket power door locks out and when I tried the manual lock on the driver's side, it's completely stuck. It feels and sounds like there's a physical interference in the mechanism that's not allowing it to actuate properly. I can't see or touch anything that's obviously wrong. Looks just like the passenger side, which is manually locking perfectly.
Could something really have happened during the disassembly of the driver's unit to cause this (but didn't happen on passenger's)? Any insights / advice would be very much appreciated. Ian |

Since I can tell everyone was riveted by my first post...here's a follow-up
![]() So I discovered the driver's door lock does in fact work, but only when the door is closed. Passenger will actuate open or closed. Can anyone confirm if this is by design? Every other car I've ever owned would lock/unlock with any door open, but perhaps Porsche did this intentionally to prevent accidental lock outs? Or maybe my lock is really having issues... |

Nope, both of my 944's work the same. Good German engineering. You can only lock the driver's door if you close the door, so you can't lock your keys inside.

Ok, thanks for confirming - had to find this one out the hard way!
