Advice for 944 Owners

Hello everyone,
I just thought I would post a piece of advice. GET THAT DAMNED TIMING BELT CHANGED RIGHT NOW!!!! i MEAN IF YOU HAVE ANYWHERE NEAR OR OVER THE REQUIRED INTERVAL FOR THAT DAMN BELT, GET IT DONE. I bought an 86 944 from a guy that said he had had it done and guess what??? HE DIDNT!!! It broke the 3rd time I drove the car and it cost me $4000.00 to have the engine rebuilt! Get it done cause it is only about $350.00 to have it done. I had my other car in the shop that weekend to to get the belt done on it because it scared me and the Chrysler is a 1998 Sebring. Again(4 grand to rebuild if anything happens) What happened to the old days when you could pull a motor and drop it off at the machine shop and for $800.00 get the long block redone???......lol. Anyway, my car has been in the shop since I bought it. It now has a rebuilt motor, new interior and braking system and is getting new motor mounts and a new rack this week. Pirelli P6000 and a full blown 2 ghz concealed computer system with a wireless modem and a graphic interface that Enterprise would be proud to have. I have been able to intergrate the PC with the sound system and can now download and play any song I want from the PC. True digital sound in my car.Can life get any better? By the way the kids can watch DVD's too...lol.

Is the button for the computer next to the machine gun trigger or the button for the oil slick?

You are dead right about the timing belt. My wife's parent have an 84 model that they have put over 70,000 miles on in the last 4 years. Never had the belt done and have no intention of doing so. I guess if you don't know about the timing belt issue, it doesn't break.

That all sounds nice, but why on earth are you paying $4000 to have your engine rebuilt?

When the belt breaks, all you usually need is a valve job, which shouldn't run more than $1500

Further, why didn't you have the car inspected before you bought it?
