The fastest I have done period is about 150 mph for a short time in a 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS on a CA highway
|
185 kph in my 944 on the track. 200 in my 924, 160 in my 924T both when I was young and silly at night in the middle of nowhere. All indicated, not verified.
|
153 front straight Daytona ,stock 89 951, GPS verified, had a tail wind
173 same place, stock 2008 911 turbo, GPS verified |
Held 140 for a bit. Was still pulling. Then I said this is nuts and backed out of it.
|
if we are going to start talking about non 944 cars my 962 226.9 MPH at daytona . but i thought it was for the 944's ?
|
the thread title i pretty open ended, as long as you don't 'drive' a motorbike or 'drive' a plane.
i would love to know 226mph feels like in a 962. come to New Zealand! I know everyone. We'd make you fell welcome! |

the 100mph for 30 min or so was headed out west. I was keeping the Cayenne in my sights off in the distance so hopefully if there were any cops, he'd be the bait. Day-to-day I spend my days creeping along in traffic. To say I have disregard for others on the road would be wrong; as I'm not that nutty type weaving in and out of traffic. |
NZ police are as bad as Aussie police for enforcing speed limits. 5kph over can see red and blues if you stick out. slightly over in the flow of traffic is usually ok.
when driving on back roads I keep to the 100kph limit but will try to keep my average speed as high as possible on my side of the road. makes for a nice challenge! |
in my 84 325es (e30 bmw) 2.7 inline 6 i've done 130 going down i94 to port huron..anyone from MI. know's it's a speed trap..but man it is fun...

I've gone a whopping 60 miles an hour in my 944 :D

once you get used to driving any car at speed you don't feal like your going fast at all really .
what you do feal is your still going quickly say 70 /80 MPH but it feals like your only doing about 20 or 30 . so you try to open the door to get some cool air in the car and the door will not open with all the air pressure pushing the door closed . thats when you say to your self i'm still going how fast still ? other than that the 962 is a planted car on a track it is not forgiving at all if you **** up the car will bite you right in the ass . if it comes up on boost when your at the wrong spot in a corner (track out ) you will power over steer in a heart beat . you have about a 12 % slip angle and that's it ! if you go 12.1% your spinning it . the cost to just fire up the car you or i can run a 944 all day at the track . when i bought the car they were not worth any thing i got it as a roller ans they were to old to race in IMSA and not old enough to race vintage . the nose panel and tail (clam shell ) were missing and the front glass was cracked with no ignition key . yes the 962's have a key to start them just like any other porsche . it took about 5 years to do the resto on the car . i found a used nose from the old momo car the clamshell was also used . i don't know what car it came from . the front glass was the hardest thing to find . they are real intershield glass not lexan with the curve of the glass if you used lexan it would distort the way things look making every thing look like you were looking thru a ice cube . as for the 944's your only going to get so much speed out of them . it does not matter how much hp or tork you have the gearing is what is going to stop the car from going any faster top speed wise . i'm have been looking into doing some thing else for my LS7 car i think it will hit a wall at about 176 / 178 or so . with other 944's i race i do change the hole trans to gear it for the track i run at . but because the ls7 car is a tube chassis car i have been thinking of installing a quaife 6 speed sequenial gear box with maybe a winters quick change independent rear with inboard brakes . |
[QUOTE=Rasta Monsta;6860940]Probably 110-ish on the race track, still pulling good in fifth.[/QUOTE i dont know how fast my 2.0 924 will go..i never had it on the road yet...but i know it is crazy under power'ed and form what i've read it wont do over 120 off a cliff..but like the rest of you (maybe) i didnt by the car for speed...
|
I've had one had my 951's up to 47 mph, but I left turn signal still on, so I may have lost a couple of mph! Yeah I'm old.
I would rather be in a turn at 70+ than flat out speed. |

I was surprised too thats why I kept my foot down! it was abt 3am and I65 was a ghost town except 2 cars on the road, me and the Trooper. I ran up from behind and as soon as I saw the blue plates he had already got me on radar by shooting me over his shoulder. There was no way to get out of it! The trooper and I had a long convo about the LR and we both left with a greater appreciation for the little AWD V6. |
