Fastest you've driven?

What's the fastest yall have driven your 944s? How did it feel at that speed? Was it still pulling when you let off?

I've seen 120 in the 951. Obviously, plenty of power left to go. Felt very similar to 85 for smoothness, except for wind noise. Id love to see faster speeds on a track, there just arent any safe places to do that on public roads, just a bad idea, I wont do that anymore.

Ive seen 135 in a muscle car, absolutely no comparison to the 951.

I was 18 and dumb. Did 120 in my N/A and cruised at that speed for about 7 minutes. Felt so smooth, wind noise was a bit high. On my way home, my exhaust fell off due to crap welds (not by me). It felt like it had a little more, but not too much. I wouldn't do it again unless it was under perfect conditions (i.e. long road that I could see straight ahead, no traffic either way, sunny, dry...etc.)

Probably 110-ish on the race track, still pulling good in fifth.

In my 951... 150mph, windows down, on a very wet Daytona Speedway track. She was still pulling pretty hard when I had to brake for turn 1.

First of all let's not get all work here about how fast we had our cars going. Cruising speed of over a 100 mph are probably an every days recurrence on the German Autobahns(Porsche homeland) depending on the car you own, here in the US & Canada we make big fuss out of it because we are simply not use to driving that fast since our hwys speed limit are so restrictive. We are simply not use to that kind of speed (unless on a race track).First to cruise that fast don't matter which models Porsche you own go got to have a car in tip top mechanical condition (motor/suspension/tires & brakes).A car you can trust on the staigth & through curves. In a period of over twenty six years had the chance to drive my ex 944 at over 130 mph many many time without drama & the car felt very safe. The 968 over 156 mph (still had some left in her) in a control area once again without drama & the car felt very sturdy at that speed.Mine you concentration when going that fast is a must ( like mention because we are simlpy not use driving that fast). Here is a pic of my 968 speedo showing 210 klms(about 130 mph) on an open stretch of road. And I had enougth confidence in my car to hold the steering with one hand & take the pic holding the camera in the other.Notice that the pic is pretty clear (not blurry the car has no shake at any speed & the suspension/ tires is doing the job which it is was meant to do) I can only say that going over 150 mph is not something I will do every days but if I were driving on the autobahns cruising at 100/120 mph with a well sort out 924S/944/S/S2/951/951/968 could be done without a sweat,it will just be a matter of paying more attention at what is going on around you.

something else to remember is that the speedometer is not the way to tell how fast you are going. many speedometers read high, increasing as speed increases. how much varies from manufacturer to manufacturer

as an example, according to a magazine review, and verified by many other cars i've seen, the 968 speedometer reads high, and by the time you get to top speed it is about 11mph fast, which means that an indicated 150 is really about 139, and when you hit top speed in stock trim, while you are going 156, it will read about 167 or better

my 2146 LBS LS7 powered 944 was clocked at 173 MPH it has more but there is not a long enough straight at the track were they were useing a radar gun . there is not speed-o in the car it adds to much weight .
my EX944 spec car with now a SBC motor tops out at 156 in a draft about 152 in open air out af a draft .

My 83 NA stopped at 120 exactly. Drive it at that speed for about 5 miles in California. The road was straight and clear for like 10+ miles. My NA I had years ago I did 135. Did any of them come with a governor? I thought it was weird that it stopped at exactly 120mph.

Just seen your post after I posted mine. You must have suicide tendency plus you don't care about other peoples life driving your car at 110 mph on dry- rotted tires.Driving fast can be done two way (SAFELY) or (RECKLESSLY).Sorry to be so blunt about it but I really think you belong to the second categories. As for following a Cayenne for half an hour at 100 mph I also have my doubts about that.

136 on my IQ3 Data logger at Daytona for the club race. I don't think there was much left.

Did 128 later in pouring rain where you couldn't see 20 feet in front of you. Miserable racing conditions. But you can stick on the banking well over 100.

Not bad for a stock engine, short fifth NA.

Speed of 157 mph was GPS verify on the trial run (once more done in a control area not on a public road) Wheels on the car are (17X 8 frt w/225-45 ZR 17) 17 X 9.5 w/255-40 ZR 17 rear. Motor when trial was done was showing 79,651 klms on the odo with chip- K&N & mod air boxe.Btw remember yours is a Cab & according to you you've seen 150+,mine is a coupe,we are only talking 6/7 mph more depending on your + over 150 mph. Can't tell you how much it had left in her but been driving Porsches long enough that I know there was some.
