OK looks like I will have to sell my baby 968
I dont have any choice really. I have to transfer to London for work related reasons. Here are the pics. It is realistically priced at $14,900. If interested email me at:
Spree17@satx.rr.com The car has all options other than m030. It is in excellant condition. definite 9 out of 10 and I'm a really tough judge. Many people on street ask me if its the "new" porsche. 86k. There are no storys to this car. Its ripping my heart out to sell it. Here is the link. http://hobbystage.net/porsche/spree17/ |

Scott - that is probably the 968 you should buy if you must have a nice one.

Take over the world?, Ok, where do I sign up?
In all seriousness, the car looks outstanding. Unfortunately after mentioning it to Commander-in-chief, household (a.k.a. wife), She gave all sorts of evil looks and made vague references to me living with the cars if I buy one more..... Overkill thanks for the compliments. I desparately want to keep it but there are too many factors that say its a bad deal to try. Shipping it to the uk is over $4000 to get it there and then back. Then you have a left hand wheel drive care on the wrong side of the road, etc, etc. I'm already starting to look for another over there so I can try and get over losing my baby. Kenny thats shocking because that website is a realy easy to load site. I dont know how to post pics but anyone else can feel free.

You know what the sad thing is: If I'd known I could get a 968 for around $14000 before I bought my Euro 944 with < 45,000 miles... well, I wouldn't have my 944. Ignorance is bliss, until you figure it all out!
By the time the end of this year comes around I'll have almost $8000 in my 944 with purchase price, my own repairs, this recent cylinder overhaul, all of it - total. Just $6000 more and it could have been a clean 968. I'm just dreaming I guess... sorry for the ramble; I love my car.

Damn, that is a nice car! If I was you,... I would be dumb enough to stay over here just for the car and find work else where

97xray: Thats why I wanted this car. I knew I wouldnt be putting money in to it. Since Ive owned it I only had one thing go on me. a $17 heater controll valve. It has zero leaks. Not a drop from anywhere. Ac is ice cold, all belts and rollers done 3k ago, clutch is super tight. Also 9 years newer than your 83. Go ahead and turn back the clock. Do it again and buy mine!

Having lived over there for a few years, having a left hand drive over there isn't too difficult - and you get used to driving on the left quicker than you would think. I would think your company should offer some option for shipping cars, since they are relocating you.
When I was over there, the only real sticking points for a US car was to have amber turnsignals in the rear - facilitated by a tail light lens change, and foglights up front car had them anyway Also, don't know if you have a dog or a cat, but they are required to be quarantined (at your expense) for 6 months to ensure the animal is rabies free. Yes they know that it only takes 10 days for rabies to show up, and yes, even though you can prove the animal was immunized for rabies all its life, it is still 6 months. Can give you a few other tidbits for living over there if you would like - Many of the British ways are charming, others are maddingly frusterating from a "yank" point of view. AFJuvat |

I'm getting hammered with emails on the car. I never knew so many people even knew what a 968 was. I have to admit 3 years ago I didnt. Thanks for all your help and suggestions guys. AF Its kinda funny everything you just said is almost in total contradiction of what some guys on 968.net said. They say its a royal pain in the but driving over there. The bottom line for me is shipping would cost about $4500 to get it there and back. Thats just too much. No my company wont help with it. They are going to give me a company car for awhile when I get there though not a 968. lol

Naah, it isn't too bad over there. I started simple- around town and then as I got used to it I started expanding my roaming area.
Best way to describe it is drive like you are a student driver again until you get the hang of it. The only part I really didn't like were the round-abouts (traffic circles) Generally, I thought the drivers over there were, with a few exceptions, a bit more polite than over here. They will quickly spot you as a foreigner (we tend to hug the lines) and give you a wide bearth The price of gasoline though, will drive you nuts - about $4 - $5 a gallon. The other big expense is car insurance - especially since you are foriegn - you may want to see what you can do through Geico (they do overseas auto insurance) If you want or need any other info, I'll be happy to provide it AFJuvat |

don't sell it.
I looked through the porsche club great britian mags and could find nothing that looks anywhere near that good for less than £15000( approx $23000), even then then did not look that good. Not that much of a problem with LH drive, have driven them over here and it's not a problem, loads of porsche owners here have LH drive, it's cheaper. Your car is fantastic looking, pay the $4000 dollers and ship it over here shaun p.s UK spec 968's have red rear light clusters, don't know if they have amber bulbs in them though. If you want a list of stuff to convert it for UK spec i can dig out the MOT (annual test certificate) information for you to see what needs to be changed. Ps don't let UK importers con you. Although were i worked last there was a lot of americans there who brought their cars with them, they all stayed with red indicator lights for the 2 years they were there, maybe there is an exemeption. Feel free to e mail me if you want to know more. Last edited by sqgabriel; 05-23-2002 at 10:45 AM.. |

sprewell,
shaun may have a point. you were thinking costs associated with shipping over and back for the total right? Well, I also noticed that P=cars in Britainia were on the high $ide. You could ship it over, drive it while you are there, and sell it before you came back. I got money in my pocket that says you will more than make up the cost of shipping it over there. And what with a lot of LH cars already being driven in the Queen's country -- there should be plenty of takers. Being a genious is such a responsibility! Kenny
