is it possible to swap Nissan 350z's engine?
I know there is a lot of LS1 swap out there...but those swap probably cost 10k..
350z's engine are quite inexpensive....ebay has a lot of them selling for less than 2k....Those engines has decent output (around 300hp)... If 944 has room for LS1 which is a V8... I assume it would have room for a V6... I am a rookie....I am just curious.... I want to know if it would be a good idea to swap in a nissan engine.... What will be the hurdles??? |

Most of the reason an V8 costs that much is due to all the custom parts.
You'd be making a custom bell housing adapter, engine mounts, clutch, spline adapter, perhaps oil pan and cross member, it adds up. Then the wiring, the real fun part. And if you're not making it, you're paying someone else large sums to make it. Custom part fabrication is expensive. A lot of measuring, design, and maufacture. If it would fit, I don't know. You'd need to find out what the width of the engine is. Some V engines (notably a 928 engine) don't fit due to width. As for if it's a good idea, that's up to you. Don't think it'll cost less than 10k. And if it doesn't cost that much, it would cost the equivalent in time. If you want to, and have thought it through, go for it. A lot of people say the only engine that belongs in a 944 is a 944 engine. I disagree. Put whatever you want in it. Take care! Last edited by FrenchToast; 08-11-2012 at 07:28 PM.. |

as said, LS1 swap cost isn't in the engine. it's all the other parts. a LS1 engine is only 1000-1500. less than the vq35de. and it's got more potential....if u want that. and it's got better aftermarket support.

LS engines fit so well because they are pushrod engines. even being a v6, the vq is dual overhead cam, will be tougher to fit.

You're worried about how to save a buck or two on a clutch replacement, but you're seriously considering an engine swap? That doesn't make any sense.
An engine swap is a big project with lots of custom work. It's not just bolting a couple things together and calling it a day. Most of the time these sorts of swap ideas lead to a post 12 to 18 months later asking if anyone wants to buy a car that's now in pieces because the swap just didn't progress like the seller thought it would.
