8 inch Cup 1 wheels fit on front of S2?

Can I replace the 7 inch Cup 1 (968) wheels on the front of my 89 S2 with 8 inch Cup 1 wheels without clearance problems. The front tire size is 205 55 16. I will space the rears (8 inch with 225 50 16) out 20mm to help compensate for change of front track.
Thanks. Joe

968 C2 Turbo wheels (commonly misnomered as Cup 1) are 7.5" wide with an ET of 65.

the 911 version of the C2 Turbo, from which they originated, was 7". not sure what the ET was.

the replicas have a different offset, and stick out about 5mm more.

unless you don't care about acceleration or braking, i would not space things out that far. the added weight will be very noticeable. each of the rears will go up a whopping 4#.

These are the wheels in question. Front 7 inchers weigh 17lbs. 2 oz. the 8 inchers weigh in at 19lbs. 11 oz. The stock D90s weigh 19 lbs. even for the 7s, the 8 inchers come in at 20lbs. 14oz.

I dislike the looks of the center spokes sticking out past the edge of the rim on the 7 inch fronts so replacing with 8s is for looks and my satisfaction only. These wheels in 8 inch form weigh only 11 oz. more the 7 inch D90s. Wish I could use the 7 and 8 Fuchs I've got stashed

The C2 turbo (aka Cup I) never came in the 16'' dimension only 17'',what you have on your car is the C2 5 spokes 16'' which was originally fit standard on the 968.A nice option open to you will be to sell the 16'' & look for a set of Cup I OEM or repro which will do the job on the street (if your not racing the car),if you do the best combo for the street will be 7.5'' or 7'' front & 8'' rear with 225-45 ZR 17'' front & 255-40 ZR rear tires. You will notice quiet a difference in the ride quality & handling of the car if you do.There is only on draw back doing this to your S2 you migth want to switch your S2 caster blocks for those of a 968, which Porsche recommend doing so when going with 17'' wheels on any 944.

the 7" wheels in the 16" have a 55mm offset
the 8" wheels have a 52mm offset.

that will push the outside edge of the front rim outward by 9mm (3 for the offset and 6 for the extra 1/2" of the 1" wider rim)

Thanks for the replies guys, I measured the 2 different rims and came close to 9/16s. Wouldn't that be 3 for the offset and 12.7 mm for the 1/2 inch for a total of 15.7?
All this gets me to thinking maybe I should just leave it alone as Porsche made it
