Hatch Wiper Delete DIY for $5

My 87 Turbo didn't come with a rear wiper, just the hole for the motor. I read several threads about DIY delete kit and decided to go to Home Depot to see what I could come up with. Here's the end result. Please excuse the plastic tape around the hole, I put it there to avoid any scratches to the glass. This was just the first attempt. Later I will do this with black screws and two rubber washers cut to proper size.

Here's the parts list from Home Depot:
Surface Grip 25mm Anti Skid Pads (#9644) - you need only one - $2.49
Neoperene Washer 1x$ - 1-1/4 - need two - $0.76 each
#10-32 x 1/2" Flat Head Machine Screws and Nut - need one - $1.18. Change this to 3/4" if using two washers

There you have it. It doesn't look too pretty but doesn't look awful either. Also much lighter weight than a 17mm hex bolt not that it would matter much. You also have parts left over for 3 more delete kits. Just buy the washers.

I will upload new pictures when I redo the job a bit more properly. If you're more paranoid about water dripping in, just use some silicone between the washers. That would do it. I thought it unreasonable to pay close to $20 for a pretty anodized aluminum delete "kit".

I pretty much did the same thing, only i used a carriage bolt insted, then i painted everything flat black and put it together. It looks great on the outside, you cant even really tell the difference between an oem plug unless your looking for it!!!

Same here except I used stainless steel hardware and a ny-lock nut.

Sorry to revice such an old post ... but anyone know the part # for the original rear wiper delete. Looked at 968 and 944 PET and not able to see it anywhere. Thanks Paul
