It seems like there's just so many varieties and brands of brake pads for the 944. The brands I'm seeing on PP for the 86 like Textar, and Mintex, and Jurid I have never even heard of. Last time I bought brake pads I think I got some no name set from O'reilly's. Is there any sort of comprehensive guide to the highest quality brands and a good compromise between performance and regular drivability?

Not sure, but heard ceramic is king. Reduced or no squeaking.

Porterfield R4-S. no question. no cold stops like metal masters. less wear on rotors too. no noise. minimal dust, and the dust they make is easier to clean.

I used metal masters for a long time , lots of dust but low wear good braking and no noise. Now i have ebc green stuff ,less dust ,better braking,no noise but they eat the rotors pretty fast.

My 86 came with a extra set of mintex, and I put them on when I did brakes last. They are dusty, but they stop good, and no noise. IIRC they're made in the UK and not China, they also don't cost that much.

I saw that... Mintex was OEM and they're under $30 for a pair... however I might try that front brake kit from Rennbay when I do go to replace my pads and rotors.

i've been blown away by the porterfields. same goes with everybody i know using them. low dust, no noise, long life, great stopping. what else do you want from a pad?
i run them on the denali, and get about 60k from a set. i am going to get about 35k out of a set on the blue 968, but i drive that car hard, and change my pads at 50%. |
