Re-drilling wheels in MD?

New to the forum and this is my first post, I would like to first say Hello! Now on to my question..........

Does anyone know of or have experience with any companies in MD who can re-drill wheels, looking to get some 4x100s drilled to 5x130?

Having a tough time finding budget wheels to fit my 'budget' DD 944, its an '83 in black with 60k miles.

I appreciate any help and input, the wheels I am considering are Borbet A's, originally VW staggered fitment.

How "budget" are you looking. Seems cookie cutters and phone dials can be had for $200-300a set. Then you know you have solid wheels designed for the car and no worries about fatique, cracking, failure etc.

Or, what about adaptors for the 4x100 to 5x130 pattern?

Where in MD are you?

What do you have on the car now, there are lots of Porsche options out there. I have 17's off a boxster, not budget but they look great. You can get the cookie cutters and PD's cheap as stated above. Better than getting a set for 300, look for a parts car with wheels for like 500-700 and not only will you have the wheels but you will have a whole car of spare parts for almost the same cost.

Regards
Dave

I was thinking more along these lines. Should be no need for spacers.

Stick with Cookies, Fuchs or Phonedials. Or custom wheels.

Re-drilling wheels and running adapters are both in my opinion unsafe.

Wheels are designed from the start with a particular bolt circle. Changing it will create different stresses on the wheel which that wheel was never designed for. With the exception of some wheels (i.e. Centerlines that have no spokes, just solid) the bolt pattern dictates the spoke placement and design. Changing the bolt pattern, for this reason, could be dangerous.

Running adapters will cause more stress on the factory hubs than those were designed for. Adapters would be required for any 17" OEM Porsche wheel, as well as for running wheels with a different bolt pattern.

Mille Miglia did make some replicas of the Cup 1 and Turbo Twist Porsche wheels in 17" for early offset (which your car is). These are fine for the street but not for the track or similar driving.

If you MUST have a different style, get some custom wheels from BBS, Fikse, CCW, Kinesis, Forgeline, Kodiak, Jongbloed, etc. etc. etc..

This is my opinion. Some people disagree with me. But, I would never run adapters nor re-drilled wheels on any of my cars. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either.

Take care!

Thanks, I have found the wheels I want, in the correct bolt pattern and perfect offsets.

I really think for a 6k car which is in essence my DD, its is really overkill to buy CCWs or BBS or any other custom made wheel, appreciate your input.

These guys are all nuts.

I know exactly what you're thinking. Stock wheels are too boring. And super expensive wheels are too baller for someone on a budget.

Plus, if you are not looking to change your wheels for performance gains then NEITHER of those options even matter at all.

That being said, I love cheap aftermarket wheels! I've had Borbet Type A's in 5x130, as well as Ronal R9, ROH ZS, ROH ZR6, ATP Spa, Epsilon Southern Ways, Revolution RFX, Gotti 55A, BBS RA, RS, A.R.E. mesh, OZ Vega, Moda R6, and the list goes on... All of them are/were 5x130. The funny thing is, most of them I wound up selling to VW guys who either redrilled them or used adapters for their VW!
