Instead of modifying my 944s to a 968 turbo I'm going to,...

GET THE NEXT GENERATION R1!!! DAMN!!! That is a nice bike!!! Before the 944 my passion was strictly SUPERBIKES! My first bike was a Ninja 250R. The only reason I got that bike was because of the fact that I was only 17 and MOM said, "This or nothing!". I paid for the bike, but mother had to sign the papers so she was the "BOSS". Now, she aint got **** on me!!! She is somewhat ****tin her pants right now. It's ok though, i'll be fine. Anyone have eperience with a R1? How does it ride/ Feel? Where is the power? High or low in RPMS? Both?

If it ain't your mother, it's your wife!!

Bikes are dangerous. People don't see 'em. People whack 'em. My wife knows that I have no resistance to speed. I rode my friends 500 Interceptor 125 mph... why? It wouldn't go any faster! It's probably better I don't have one -- my wife's a guineas.

I know! Dude I did 130 on my 250, why? Because I couldnt get the dane thing to go any faster! BUT, it was 3am on a major highway and know one was around. I also plan on getting a new exhaust system loud enough so people will atleasy hear me It works, because I have missed a couple of them on the road and didnt know they were there until they gunned it.

Now you know why I call myself overkill See you guyz!!!

R1

My buddy has two of them....yes two(2002 R1's). Bastard! Anyways, they are awesome. Both of us have been riding for 9 years now and frequently do track days, my lap times are competitive for AFM amateur racing and I can tell you that it is way too much bike for me. My buddy is pretty much in agreement, its a ton of fun...but you find yourself in trouble too often if you aren't carefull. He actually wrecked his first one after 3 months(insurance totalled it and he kept it..hence two). It's a great bike, handles bumps supremely and a killer chassis to boot...but if your last bike was a 250, i would seriously consider something else. Perhaps a large twin or a 750cc sportbike. My 2 cents.

TLSMikey,
Does the engine in your friends wrecked R1 work? Does he want to sell it?

Well, I knew I was going to get that lecture about being to much bike. When people inquire about purchasing a motorcycle, I tell them the same thing. I understand, but this is somthing that im going to have to judge for my self. I see alot of people come into the hospital due to motorcycle accident. I know what it looks like and how it usually ends up. I think Im alittle bit more responsible on my bike then most. I don't want to end up like them. I got my 250R at the begining of that summer and was ready to trade it in before the summer was even over. I didn't because they wouldn't sell me another bike! That bike was nice but was friggin slow! It had a nice top speed but slow as balls from a start. I'm not trying to impress anyone(I have my porsche for that). Anyway, I mastered that bike extremly quick and I want to try somthing BIGGER! If I dont like it, I could always trade it for something smaller.

A bike is only as fast as your wrist makes it. The car that hits you does not care how many cc's your bike has. I bought an FJ1100 2 weeks before i had a license. I lost said license 2 weeks after i got it due to an eluding gone awry, damn dead end road. After i sold the FJ i bought a GSXR and that was my only transportation for years. I held on to it for about 10 years.

Remember, there are 2 types of bikers - those who have been down, and those who are going down -

Mother does know best =) I got hit by a couple of cars. I do agree with you about the loud pipe, i will not ride a bike on the street w/out a loud pipe. I also will not ride an underpowered bike as you cannot "throttle" your way out of trouble, as i have done to avoid MANY other encounters with 4 wheel transportation. I would probably be scared to ride a bike nowadays with the SUV craze in full effect.

Sorry for the lecture-like post. My bad, I should know better. Anyways, yeah you would be fine if you were a responsible rider...for me, i spent an afternoon on the bike and if i could restrain myself for the first few weeks i might be fine...but on track days, i could definitely see myself getting into trouble. The motor on that bike is truly awesome...and the fuel injection is seamless. I still can't get over how well it soaked up the bumps in the road though....that was by far its strongest asset. Oh..and no the motor is not for sale, he kept the bike(plastic damage only really) and is using it as his track bike now.

TLSMikey thank you for the lecture. You see that lecture is GOOD advise, and theres nothing wrong with a little GOOD advise. We all could all use a little GOOD advise.

I just got my license a few weeks ago. I wanted to start with a brand new gsx-r 600. Instead I bought a fzr 600 and believe me it's FAST. But, I did get used to it quickly even having never ridin anything except a 50cc aprilia scooter. Because of age/mileage it doesn't have the reliability I want and I am going for the gsx-r 600. I might actually go tommorrow to finally buy it. I was there yesterday looking at it. But what I want to say is that while I got used to my bike it is still EXTREMELY fast and just because I got "used to it" doesn't mean I can push it to it's max, because I can not.... you can rarely go full throttle, only on the rarely found straightaways by me... And the gsx-r will have about 20% more power and weigh maybe 15% less. What I'm trying to say is just try out a 600, maybe an R6 if you like yama, but if your stuck on bad-ass mode don't get the R1... The GSX-R 1000 is the ULTIMATE supersport bike. Most power and fastest 1/4 out of virtually any bike. (only one with sub 10 1/4 out of the R1, 954RR, Ninja 900, even faster than the ninja 1200 or the CBRXX 1134)

I just say 600 it up like me... I feel not many drivers act more responsible than me in the car but when I'm on the bike I get crazy sometimes....

Good luck with whatever you do be safe and always watch for cages

Pat

I did do research and that bike is bad a$$, and I don't really need the most bad a$$ bike out there. This bike will suit me fine. I am not a bad a$$. Im not a bad a$$ with my porsche either. I do the limit, thats its. I am also very observent too. It will be ok. you have to respect the machine.

Cool

Overkill
the new R1 is a sweet bike, well the ones we get here in Australia are. I assume they will be pretty much the same.

I have been riding bikes for over 20 years now, and can never get enough 2 wheel action

I ride a 1981 Katana 1100, actually rode it to my wedding and bought a second for the groomsmen

Good luck anyway!

Stay upright.

Cheers Tazzie

Thanks! I'm sure I will enjoy it much:P Hey GIXOR02, dude I rode a FZR 600! I just rembered last night at work. Dude, it was fun! I could do like 50-60 in first It was easy. I thought it would be alot harder to ride as opposed to the 250R, but the only thing that I had to get used to was turning on it. I noticed you had to lean and push on handle bars a bit more to get it to turn right. But after a couple of rounds on it, I loved it. That particular bike had Vance & Hines exhaust with race clutch. It took a couple of tries to get the bike moving with that clutch. It was very short, It was like as soon as you let up on the lever just a tad the bike began to move. But, was great once mastered. I learned to ride on a 125 2-stroke.

Yea, I have the stock clutch and it's VERY short... just takes getting used to. And yea 1st goes like 50-60. I only tried once. Then I tried a redline run in 2nd on this very very deserted straight backroad. I quickly looked at the tach only at 11k but I think it was over 100mph. So when I pulled in the clutch that is when something broke. They took it yesterday and have not called yet so I'm not sure what's wrong. Now that it happened I hear yama's have very weak clutches; at least the fzr does and a few owners I talked to had the same happen(it's probably why the one you rode had a racing clutch). It's very fun and fast though. I too take it easy 99% of the time and like you said, respect the machine. That's very true. As far as my quest for a gsx-r.... We (my bro and I- he's getting the same exact bike as me) were at the dealer yesterday and they have a whole lot of different bikes. I was checking out the R1 and it just feels right when you get on it. That's for me at least. The cbr's seem too weird... handlebars are higher and tank seems to stick up into your stomach. So any way I'm going back with my parents who will co-sign for us if the loan goes through.(pray for me )

BTW On the way home an R1 pulled into a rite aid as we were stopped at a light and in the lot right before he parked he did a little mini wheelie. He had shorts and short sleeves. Stupid. But the bike's awesome!!!

Good luck, Oh do you want to pay or get a loan?

Pat

Oh and I wasn't implying you are trying to be bad-a$$ and I wasn't doubting your being responsible

Oh I saw the real life pic thread, what type of paintball gun do you have? I have a tippman 98. I'm gonna post some cool pics of a bunch of stuff when I get home....

I'm gonna get a loan for the bike. I have great credit so it wont be a problem getting the loan. I love the R1! The paintball gun I have is a lovely Adrenalin Angel. The gun was worth like 2-3 grand. I just got a on-board 5000psi NO2 tank for the gun. The gun is flawless when it shoots. I love it, and no its not an LSD.
