One more conversion post!!

So I have a 1977 (1976) 924 which was babied by the previous owner getting undercoated all the time along with stored inside. So as a result it has no rust on body or floor boards. The engine has around 60k on it so Im stuck between supercharging it with a custom kit or swapping a 944s engine?? Suggestions?

The car sounds like its in very good shape, older 924's are becoming more rare you may want to consider keeping it as is. I would guess that it would cost about as much to put a 944 engine in there as it would to simply buy a running driving 944. A decent 944 can be had in the 4K range these days. I dont know much about super charging but again the cost may get to the point where its not worth it.

I had a similar debate with my self a few years back. I had a 924S that was not in great shape. The engine needed a rebuild, the body needed work, the car needed paint and the entire interior needed upholstery. Although I loved the car that kind of money was a lot to drop on a not so valuable car even in great shape. I ended up buying a 78 911SC that was in very decent shape (engine rebuilt, new seats, clean dash, good stereo etc) for about the same price that all the work would have cost me. The 911 is faster and quite a blast to drive I must say. Then again its up to you, one of the coolest things about Porsche's is that every one puts there own twist on them. You will find every thing from turbine powered 944's to LS1 911's to Long hoods with a 993 motor and they are all cool in there own way.

The rule of thumb I like to go with is that any mods I make must be undo-able with ease. I have a chip in my 944 that gives me a bit more power and smooths the idle, but I kept the stock chip and can always put it back if I want to revert.

Regards
Dave

One step further, I put a switch in the glovebox to flip on and off between stock and custom chip.
