Motor mounts on 944

How do you determine when to replace motor mounts? 150,000 miles on car and don't know if they have every been replaced.

hehehehe

If the car is at idle and it feels like the fillings in your teeth are going to shake out, it is time to replace your mounts.

If the car runs smooth at idle, your mounts are fine.

There is no scheduled replacement for mounts - just as needed.

When the bottom of the oil pan just touches the cross member on the passenger/exhaust side -- change the mounts!

I'm changing mine tomorrow. Along with the cracked exhaust manifolds, front rotors, struts, ball joints and any bearings, seals and tie rod ends necessary.

Gonna be a long day.

Good Night.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Yeap. Took about 6 hours. Sure changed the car. Raised the engine over an inch. Guess living with deteriorating mounts one never knows when to change them.

Should check them in five years or so -- think?

Been almost 17 years since I bought the thing. Been my daily till the original engine gave up the ghost three months ago. Now after three months of spare time work I'm back! Now I need to reinforce and replace the front seat bolt downs. One's gone completely and the other is hanging on by hair.

It never ends.

Haven't yet. What type should I use?

Bought an 86 auto with 130,000 documented miles that had been sitting for over four years because of a "light" engine fire. Used it's engine -- for now.

Once I have "assimulated" the 86 I'm possibly going to dig into rebuilding the 83's engine. Although a V-6 sounds more interesting. ;-)
