Euro Front Bumper - Example

Now I've always liked the early 944 Euro front and rear bumpers. Found some good pictures of one being sold on eBay. Wouldn't mind making/modifing/finding/buying some for my 944.

Take a look at this link and feedback.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1835356472

Or look at these pictures (if they come up...)

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

That sloted lower valance kind of puts me off too.

I would only take the bumper.

In additon; somewhere in time I saw a 924 / 944 where there were additonal red tail light segments that framed in the US size license plate like the "regular" tail lights frame in the euro plates.

Anyone?

The rear on that car is not stock. It does look like a$$ though.

Looks like a stock Euro rear end with a lower valance kit to me?

Not a bad rear bumper replacement. Honestly can't call fiberglass a bumber.

Now that crappy looking wing just has to go!

Yeah, yeah, I know that the rear deck spoiler is mostly out of the wind flow until you really go fast. What many don't realize is all it takes is a row of turbulators about 1/2" high between the rear deck hinges and the back opening for the sunroof to make the stock spoiler work at lower speeds.

Next time you fly an airliner take a look at the little gizmo's sticking up just in front of the outer control surfaces (ailerons). Those are turbulators.

Yes. A lot of little vorticies which very rapidly break up into a very thin layer of turbulance next to the surface down wind.

Reason; to pull the high speed air as close to the surface as possible. Since the turbulance is going slower than the rest of the air it "sucks" or entrains the higher speed air very close to the surface.

The top of the rear deck/glass on our 944s has a great big vortice that causes drag until there is enough high pressure air (going fast) to force it past the center and into the spoiler. This is sometimes refered to as laminar flow (but not exactly).

I made a sharks tooth temporary design 17 years ago when I got my first (and only) 944 and taped pieces of yarn all over the back glass to check this out. Worked. Never followed through with a clip on desgn that would fit the front of the rear glass by the hinges.

Another interesting aerodynamic trick is to put flow fences on the hood and the roof.

I'm not too fond of seing wings on a 944. I think it's too much rice for me. Unless it actually worked. Then I would need proof. But I wouldn't need it on a 944 n/a. It looks good just the way it is.
