How do I relieve fuel pressure to install FPR

I want to put on the 3.0 bar fpr I got. Just thought of this and i am at work. Is there a fuse for the fuel pump I can pull while the car is running till it stalls to relieve fuel pressure in the fuel rail? Is this OK. ANy other method?

Sounds like a good idea. Don't know if there is a fuse. There is a relay that you can pull out but that one may also stop the ECM at the same time, so not suitable to relieve pressure. Do the work in open space and just remove replace the FPR,don't worry about the little petrol spil.

just take off the cap at the end of the fuel rail. Lay a rag under it to catch the fuel.

I would do it after the car has sat overnight and is stone cold, place a rag under the end cap and loosen it. You'll be surprised how little fuel comes out. Have a fire extinguisher nearby.

You will be surprised how little fuel comes out the end rail and then how much fuel gets dumped when you remove the regulator.

Pulling the fuse for the fuel pump should do the trick to drink all the gas left over in the fuel rail.

yeah, put a rag under the regulator/damber when you remove it, because fuel will still come out. I have never had a problem with countless removals.

I pulled the fuse for the fuel pump sender under the hood. My car is an 86 951. I looked in the haynes before and it said pull the one in the footwell. I didn't. I pulled the one under the hood, the car died in 4 seconds. I pulled the fpr off and AAAAGHH!!! Fuel starts squirting under pressure. Was only a few seconds and i had a tone of paper towels ready. Oh well, 5 minute job.

Always had good luck doing the following

Remove gas cap
Crimp fuel feed hose
Start car
pull fuel pump fuse
Wait for car to stall.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but man, that is an awful lot of work compared to laying down a couple of rags.
OK, i'll shut up now.

I agree, but I have found that it isn't as messy. Only takes about 2 minutes to do.
