Would a 951-powered 924S actually be faster, do to the lighter weight?

I'm currently swapping a 951 engine into my 924S. You can see my thread on 924board here.

There you will see lots of pictures and I've even posted wiring diagrams to help make this swap easier for those who are interested.

Feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

As has been gone over four trillion times before, you cannot (easily) turbocharge the existing engine. It is set up for a different compression.

The most successful way to turbocharge the standard engine is by using the Callaway kit. Which is long since NLA. Don't know exactly what it consists of. Under 50 kits were produced, so finding one would be difficult.

The best is to just swap in a 951 engine.

Faster than a 951, likely. Less weight, and I think less drag. The less drag is largely due to the lack of spoilers, but as JrBoulder mentions less surface area as well. Drag coefficient is a function of surface area. However Porsche claimed the rear and front valences on the 951 cleaned up a lot of air. I don't know how it compares to a 924 however. And I would imagine the RoW cars have slightly different Cd's.

The aforementioned car with 951S engine was featured in Excellence some issues back.

Take care!

Yeah, the skinnier fenders will make a difference in top speed.

For when you take it to Daytona.

+1 John this swap has been done numbers of time on 944s with sucess,so it will be the same for a 924S. Less hassle than a turbo with much less plumbing.Maybe not as much HP but still will up your blood pressure if driven to it's limits.Btw this guy went all out with his swap & there is lot of things you really don't need when doing it (so less money invested).Example 6 speed 968 tranny which are very expensive(should have been a 951/S2 tranny-968 CV's & torque tube -aluminum flywheel-8mm braided spark pluges -wires-blaster coil ect.
