Front bumper ugrade

Would an 86 944 front bumper fit on the 84 without any modification?

Lol why do you say that? I like the 84 bumper but I like how much cleaner and smoother the 86 looks. Plus I found a good deal on one and my bumper isn't in the best shape.

They're the same bumper.....You're thinking of the turbo bumper.

The 86 and later turbo cars have the aerodynamic front end along with the later S models. I would love to have that front end on my 85.5, but not so simple to change out.

Sometimes I wonder if it was worth it to swap bumpers. Sure it looks better, but it cost a decent amount of money that I could have put towards something more important like a timing belt or brakes. I thought I only had to swap big things like the bumper and fenders, but there were a lot of smaller bits that can be hard to find.

Do a search for "shaved bumper" or "pushed in bumper". Maybe you'll like that instead and can save yourself a couple hundred dollars.

Well that's why I asked. If its not a straight bolt up job then forget it. I'm mainly focused on restoring the interior now anyway but it was a good price on the bunpee but looks like ill pass and just go with a body kit when the time comes. I love having a 944. Even in a town like Dallas where everyone and their dog has a Porsche, I have yet to see another 944. Its such a joke when I see so many of the same cars driving around.

Ditto on spending the money on more useful things. Brakes, suspension, maintenance this is coming from the guy who had a full respray though

Send a message via Yahoo to 89-944NA
He'll also need the batwing, inner bumper, bumper shocks, etc..if he's doing the turbo nose upgrade....and to balance it properly, the black trim under the door sill, rear embellisher (both pieces)...ah hell, just sell the 84 and buy a turbo or S2

here is a pic of my 84NA with a 86 turbo bumper. my nose panel is the original welded on panel. A PO did the work on it, so i'm not sure of what supports may be missing or what was trimmed and was bought besides obvious stuff. Just throwing out some pics for a visual reference for you.

LOL - thanks for all the input but yes, as I've already decided - it's just too much damn work for a stupid bumper. But now that I have my answer - it's time to move on

That isn't a true turbo bumper. Its an aftermarket piece that lets you put a turbo-look bumper on an N/A. It allows you to keep the N/A nose panel, headlight covers, and fenders.

You can get one from: AIR- American International Racing they usually supply high quality fiberglass parts.Bougth a rear 944 (fab) bumper from them years ago & up to date it still look new.The problem with the 944na to 951 front conversion is not the price of the part. It's the cost of the driving/turn signals combos that you have to buy separately & which cost a fortune (ask any 951/S2 owner who end up with broken one, unless you can find them use.

Fog/driving ligths & 944s na turn signals are dirt cheap compare to the one on a 951/S2.Just an example 1 unit combined lens for a 951 new genuine is ($677.86) replacement is($340.73).
