Jerry Rigged HVAC
![]() I don't have the constant hot air no matter what of death issue, but I do have weird erratic interior cabin temperatures, and it's like I am always playing with the knob. I think I've realized what that "ticking" sound is in the interior when you turn on the A/C or move the knob far. It looks to me like that white bushing support thing is half broken off and the metal clip I see on clark's garage is AWOL. That black zip-tie doesn't look stock to me!! ![]() So, I need one of the metal clips, and how many white bushing/clip/things? Pelican says 3 per car but I don't see where the other two are/would go.

erratic cabin temps? Hmm.
Try switching out the Bosch sensor unit (up above glovebox cubby, front left). Pretty sure that's what senses the interior temp. Could be toast. Find a friend with a later car you can swap for a day or so. No info on clips for you, sorry. Take care! |

I was thinking that the sensor too, which I can't seem to find a part number for or how to access it. That hole next to the cigarette lighter is a tube leading to the sensor, correct? Not many friends out here it seems! Or none that frequent PP, anyways. I've read a lot about the broken/missing clip in other threads though, and it seems like it would attribute to my issue, not sure.

Yes the little tube going to the hold next to the lighter is for that. I yanked that long ago - slowing me down.
![]() This should be how to remove the glovebox, IIRC: ( Anybody reading this who has a car with airbags DO NOT follow the below procedure. You need to know what you're doing when disassembling airbag areas. Consult an approriate expert. ) As for the sensor unit, I don't recall if you can get to it with the glovebox in place. If not, you have to take the glovebox cubby out. Unlatch the lid. On the bottom of the lid (where it hinges) - there are three bolts to remove the lid. Don't tell thieves. Then there are two or four screws attaching the cubby to the dash frame, they are where the lid would seat. Then the cubby should slide out (there is a brackt in the back that it rests in, but isn't bolted to AFAIK). Slide out the cubby, don't tip it upside down. Then you should see the sensor. Cylindrical, says Bosch. Nuts that hold it on are in kind of an awkward position. Yank it out and the system defaults to full heat (cabin temperature defaulting to cold). I yanked it out hoping for the opposite. Luckily I had the brilliant idea to bring it with me on the drive, so I could plug it in before things started melting! As for finding one to swap in for a bit, ummmm. I don't know! Happy Holidays! Last edited by FrenchToast; 12-12-2012 at 08:16 PM.. |

Yay! I have removed the glovebox front/latch/hinge to replace the hinges with Rennline's stainless steel ones, so should be a piece'a'cake! Only thing is I also have a switch in the back of the glovebox where my Wilk's dual-chip switch is... not sure how that was fabricated (only thing the PO did right IMO). A moot point however, without a swappable unit :/
I'm going to replace the metal clip and bushing on that arm first, the part is like two bucks, and then move onto the more involved deal. ![]()

Cabin temp sensor P/N 944.624.013.00
here are the numbers for the white piece (Porsche calls them bearings) that is broken and the metal clips....they are inexpensive, so make it a DIWYIT and change all of them. 944.572.313.00 bearing.....you need 3 of them 944.572.314.00 bearing.....you need 3 of these also 944.572.217.00 spring clamp....you need 3 of these Sorry, but it's been so long since I replaced the bearings on my HVAC system, I don't recall where they all go. If I recall correctly, there are those arms on each side of the main vent, look around, you'll find them In the parts diagram, go to MG 8 SG 13 Illustration 813-00, bearings are item number 13 and 14, spring clamp is item 15, and the sensor is item 36. As for working around the airbag, it's not a problem, you won't be around the airbag system, glove box removes without fooling with that system. If for some reason you ever need to disconnect the airbags (like when removing an airbag steering wheel, as per the FSM, disconnect the battery and let the car sit for 30 minutes before disconnecting the airbag).

Only $150! Thanks for the part number... for some reason I can't find it listed in the PET even though I see the part in the diagram!

Hmm. At any rate, I'm going to replace the broken bushing/clips and see if thatdoes the trick, if not, I guess I will need a sensor(s)!

Oh man...What now?
|
I believe the zip tie in the picture has slipped off and down from the threaded rod. It was (or tried to be ) used to hold the rod in place.

I bought the white bushing and metal clip along with four intake manifold gaskets today from PP. *hopefully* it's an easy cheap fix
