Clicking sound

Well, here we go again...
I've driven the car about 100 miles since the belts/pump/pulley job and now she's decided to grace me with another problem. It seems that in certain instances, I hear a clicking sound when accelerating, decelerating, and when making a right turn. These sounds are intermittent however; I think they may be getting louder so I've stopped driving her until the cause is found. Based on the research thus far, could it be a CV Joint? I've read a bit on R&Ring an axle so it doesn't appear to be a huge deal (if that's the case). I'm going to my buddy's shop tomorrow morning and take a peak underneath. An update will be forthcoming...

Sounds like it could be a CV joint. Especially since you mention the clicking during turning.

I removed the driver's side axle this morning and found noticeable worn spots on the race thus explaining the noise. There was a substantial amount of caked on grease all over the place and it took some time cleaning each 12 point bolt prior to removal. Further inspection, after cleaning all assemblies, revealed pitting on the axle shaft so... I'm forced to replace the entire unit. At least I found the problem. Now, to scrounge up the coin to replace it; she will have to rest for a couple of weeks. I figure that in the mean time, I can research the low speed cooling fan and driver's side high beam issues.
She must be a jealous girl as she keeps taking time away from my wife! At least there hasn't been a cat fight yet...

Best CV joints bolts out there are the stage 8 (Locking CV Bolts Kit) available from www.ideolagarage.com (Click on Ideola& Apos;Garage to see kit) Little expensive you migth say but worth every pennies, after all it's the CV joints who turn your car wheels.

Ernie9944,

Thanks for the info regarding bolts. Complete axle assemblies appear to be hard to find. I did call PP yesterday with no luck. I did manage to find another source although I prefer to spend my money here.

Thanks for looking but I believe the axles are for 1985 and up. I did call them on Friday to confirm. I've been hearing that the early axles are getting harder to find. I may have to dig through the metal recycling pile and retrieve my old one.

Pitting where? Axle assemblies save labor for shops and make them money on a marked up part, but are rarely necessary. Just buy a new joint. . .the early ones are a dime a dozen.

Oh, and pull the other side for a clean and relube while the car is off the ground.

Pitting is along the race area. I also found a crack on the wheel axle side end.
Porsche wants $460.00 for one new axle assembly so I'm going refurbished...
The other side has been removed , cleaned, re-lubed, and re-installed yesterday (1/4 step ahead of you Rasta but thanks for the suggestion).
