hood heat shield

Hey guys,
I looked in the forum, I didn't see anything on replacing the heat shield on the hood, I purchased one from garage 9 and I was wondering what I should use to adhere it to the hood? I know a 3M spray adhesive, but which one? I don't really want it to fall off while I'm driving /:
Thanks

I dunno. You mean the sound insulation on the hood?

I purchased mine here on Pelican, and it had adhesive on it. I just peeled off the backing layer and stuck it onto the hood. Porsche 924S/944/968 Miscellaneous - Page 11

It was very easy.

If yours does not come with adhesive, I'm not sure what I'd use. Some sort of silicon adhesive; you could put on a thin layer with a spreader?

That insulation is garbage, over time it will just crumble & make a mess of everything.I deleted mine on my 944 NA four years after I bougth it (small chunk was starting to fall out already)with no adverse effect. In fact Porsche did delete the hood insulation on the 944S2,also on the 968 & I'm glad they did.And there is also a wide debate about the insulation keeping the engine to hot.Without the insulation you can clean the inside of the hood easily, apply a good wax & it will keep clean for a long time.My 968

well from what I was reading the insulation keeps the paint from bubbling from the engine heat.. and mine runs VERY hot. I got mine from garage 9 or Jager Engineering (same people) I haven't unboxed it yet but I'm pretty sure there isn't adhesive.. I'm very cautious as I JUST had my car re painted, and I didn't do the best job removing the old liner :P so I'd rather have the liner there to cover the um.. mess :P I'm guessing to use the 3M 90 adhesive but I'm really just guessing.. well I think its time for a trip to O'reily's

[QUOTE=ritter4242;7190620]well from what I was reading the insulation keeps the (paint from bubbling from the engine heat)----- Not true----.. and mine runs VERY hot.

Lol man in order to bubble your hood paint it will have to get real hot indeed, for example Acrylic Paint will start to melt at between 300/400*F & will boil at around 400*F,personally I've never seen a 944 hood getting that hot. But it's your choice, just one peace of advice make sure you find the rigth adhesive or you'll be sorry when it start peeling off once install.GL

from what I have understood is that this insulation is for noise proofing only. On all vehicles not just porsche's I have taken mine off because it looks much better to me with out it.

it does an excellent job of dampening engine noise, but it also contains heat. without the insulation, the hood acts as a heat sink and draws away heat as the cooler air passes over it.

Dont you just hate it when almost every post makes some sense? What's a guy to do? Personal preference and choice is what it comes down to. I replaced mine some years ago with one that already had the adhesive on it. It is sandwich type set up. The foam is layered between a shiney aluminum sheet (engine side) and an adhesive ply.
I replaced it purely for cosmetic reasons. The heat radiating through the hood often dulls my sheen. I find my sheen lasts longer with the insulation.

well ****... :/ So I got the box today.. and its the hood liner for a 928.. So whats a guy to do? anyone have any luck with Jager Engineering / garage 9's return policy? I tried calling them and their phone number goes to their fax. I will probably end up going to classic 9 leather (theirs is cheaper and I can get a thicker material) soooo now comes the long and very annoying process of returns wish me luck.

the inability to keep it clean is exactly one of the primary reasons i did not run the foam material. it showed every scuff and smear. i wax the underside of my hood, as well as the engine bay. having something like that in there was a non-starter.

the other reason i didn't do it was that the under hood temps rose. i had temp sensors under the hood measuring things, and it was quite noticeable. i'm sure i could probably have done something about that, but the other problem would still have been there.

i really did want to quiet things down though, and i'm still looking for something that can do that, be easy to keep clean, and not raise the under hood temps.

the heat shield i tried was from jageng. black foam rubber sort of stuff. i scuffed it just trying to install it. besides that, it had creases in it from how it was shipped, that never came out. totally unacceptable. i thought about some sort of covering for it, but then it was going to get too heavy. i was pretty bummed, because i really liked how much noise it knocked down. i may yet revisit this and try again.

i'll either replace or remove mine when it gets tatty.

the insulation is good for when your hood struts need replacing and it comes down on your head.
