washer jet problems
I am slowly getting through the small problems with my car. Next on the list is the windshield washer jets, when I pull the lever to work them the wipers move but the pump doesn't work. I removed the pump and cleaned it out as it was jammed reinstalled it and it still doesn't work.
I don't seem to be getting any power to the pump when I pull the lever, any ideas on where to start first? Also the wipers don't reset back to the bottom on the windshield if I let go of the lever I have to hold it until they are close to the bottom and then let go. |

My washer jets don't work either. My last 944 had a bad pump and I bought an aftermarket replacement off evil bay but ended up putting it on my 86 since I sold the 83. Still doesn't work and I haven't tried to fix it since then, but I'd be interested to hear the solution. I also have new hose to replace the old hose.

i had the same problem with my 84 944 what it was with that car was the wiper switch on the steering column .
when i put direct power to the washer pump it worked . but it only came out one washer nozzle that was clogged with wax and crap . the wipers would work when you just turned them on but not reset only when i pressed the washer lever . in my 944 race cars i don't use the steering columns from the 944 so i just pulled one of the switches from that column and replaced the one in the street car . because there are many parts to the washer system you have to go thru the system to just check to see what is going on with your car . it was the switch with my car but it could be just about any thing with you car . If you can hear the pump working, 9 times outta 10 the nozzles are simply clogged. I have to take mine apart about every two years or so to clean them, and you wouldn't believe the funk that gets in there. This is what happens if the car sits for long periods without using the washer fluid - it gets pulpy like orange juice over time.

If the pump is working, not only clean the nozzles, but also clean the lines...a lot of people put plain water in the washer, and over time, the water gets stagnant and forms pond scum it gets sucked up by the pump and clings to the inside of the feed lines.....once in the lines, it starts growing there too.
If you clean the nozzles and pump but not the lines, that crap will plug the nozzles again. Use only windshield washer fluid or water with a mold inhibitor or vinegar

I cant hear the pump when I try and use them, the pump was also blocked but when I cleaned it out it it still doesn't work. I think its an electrical problem somewhere as the pump does not get 12v when I try and use them. I wasn't sure what to check or if there was any common problems with the washer system.

when I took my pump housing apart to check out the motor, all I found was a rust and a few pieces of brass and broken chunks of metal. So glad the PO kept all the broken pieces together in a shiny and polished housing

It was just funny the way you said it. Luckily you can get the pump for about $30

dude...everything I say is either tongue in cheek or genuinely in earnest. If I don't gripe and make fun of my car here I might as well cry. My FB friends are sick of my posts and don't have any automotive knowledge past what the dash tells them(or what they interpret). You guys are my only link to automotive experience with my car. I just taught my 22yr old cousin how to use a circular saw, start a lawn mower, and how to plug a tire. granted he was txting the whole time. but I tried.

Both my nozzles are broken, and this is what I discovered after taking the pump housing apart...

Oh, my mistake, I was referring to the headlight jets and pump. Those are quite difficult to source.

Anyone got any more ideas on the position reset problem? I've got this too and cant get around it. I've tried the wiper delay relay, but no joy. I think there may be another relay adjacent to the pump itself - could that be the root cause?
On mine, when the wipers stop in the wrong position I've found that the wipers wont run in continuous mode until you pull the lever to run the washers again (with the lever still notched up to the continuous run position). However, when I do this the wipers will then reset back to the bottom position - takes the guess work out of it. |

Could the wiper switch itself be the issue?
