Rough revving

I got the "new" engine in and spent half the day driving the thing around. I've noticed that above 3500, mainly above 4,000, it revs kind of rough. I can feel the vibration in the stick, and it just sounds different. The balance belt is good, the oil pressure is good. I'm running dinosaur oil in this engine instead of mobil1 to stop the leaks that it will surely have. Any ideas on the rough revving? It pulls like a scalded cat, just doesn't feel quite as smooth. Maybe an exhaust leak?

Could the balance shaft sprocket things being on 180 degrees backwards do that?

mueller,

I read a lot of your previous posts, the car has had a lot of problems since the rebuilt Blazak engine.
Recently the rod bearings:
Oil cooler removal

Usual rough or vibration occurs at 3300rpm~+- if the FW & PP are not balanced correctly.

Could it be the Kevlar Clutch disc?
Clutch problem....oh and I'm new

But, did you ever find the oil leak?
Burning oil smell at higher RPMs

Have you contacted Blazak about the problem?
Clutch Selection

He is right, the clutch may outlive the engine...

It is difficult to work on the car while in school, good luck.

Turned out the balance sprockets weren't lined up.

I did run into a lot of issues. Clutch did outlive the engine, put it on my new engine. I have talked to Markus Blaszack a lot, he's been very helpful over the years with various questions, I still turn to him when something goes wrong on the car, whether it's with the engine or not. I'm gonna slowly rebuild that other one to be a 3.0L turbo.

You were! It's funny because when we would get everything lined up and tightened, we'd start the car and the lower sprocket would somehow turn...a lot. And we'd have to pull everything back off to line it back up again. I have no idea why the belt would suddenly become loose but on like the 4th try we finally got it to stay put.
