new stereo install

Does anyone know the wire colors or where I can get a diagram of them to install my new headunit? There is an old aftermarket Blaupunkt in their now but not all the wires are hooked up to it from the stock stereo.

I got the headunit installed but the dash lights don't come on now. Whoever installed that previous headunit made a real mess of things. I couldn't even see most of the factory wires and had to use whatever pigtail extensions he made. That diagram you posted made no sense to me at all as I can't tell where the wires from the radio are going except the ob ious ones like antenna and speakers. Which wire goes to the dash lights?

Can't help you too specifically.

However, for later cars it seems colors are as such:

Red: hot w/ battery
Green: hot w/ ignition
light blue (I think): hot with parking lights
brown: ground

I think its light blue for parking lights. Check it with a voltmeter or test light.

The radio installer probably spliced into the wire running to the gauge lights so that the radio lights would also come on with the parking lights.

My car had a poorly installed radio as well. I remember it not-so-fondly.

Check your previously installed aftermarket radios!

Happy New Years!

You're welcome

Well, I found the problem - a fuse - ugh. I feel kinda silly for not checking the fuses first - I know better but at least it was something simple. Thanks everyone for the feedback and assistance.
