Late light switch knobs.
So, as lame and unimportant as my question is..... why the different pictures on the knobs? Anybody know if it's a different years thing or maybe 944/968 thing?

I think it's a US vs ROW difference.
My Canadian car has the one like the top picture. The light bulb design. Do the US ones have the other one? While Canadian cars have US style bodies, and US spec engines, they have ROW speedometers (KPH), and don't have the shift light (CASIS).

Maybe an early and late knob, the 968 in the garage and my 88 951 have the knob like the top picture....bottom may even be a 911 knob (911's use that diagram for the lights)

Mine is a RoW '86 and I have the top switch.
Can't say whether i've seen the bottom switch before. looks early 928-ish.

^ are they both '86's?
I'd say the -00 is an uber early version and -01 superseded it. My owners manual is at home, what switch does it show in the photos/ drawings? -00 looks very similar to the foglight switch symbol. they may have changed it to reduce confusion.

The -00 number has a 535 in front of it and -01 number has 533..... so I assume the -00 is newer. The symbol looks to be a "high beam" symbol..... but those are located on the column. Maybe it meas "lights". My 96 Jetta has the "light bulb symbol" like the top/left picture.

Probably changed to reduce confusion. I have the "lightbulb" symbol also. The other switch has the same symbol as my high beam indicator.

SOLVED:
Part number 944.613.535.00 is used on the 85.5 to 91 944 and part number 944.613.533.01 is used on the 1992-1995 968

A quick search through our host's catalog, shows that you are correct.
But It does not explain why most 944s have the 968 knob. One might think it's because they break and are replaced with the new part, but my original manual from 86 shows different knobs on different pages. ![]() Very Strange! Anyways I think we have beaten this dead horse, to...death. PS: Knob 944-613-535-00 is $0.75 cheaper, and yes they are interchangeable.

headlight washers on 22.
my fold out page for the dash layout (pg 17/18) shows a translucent steering wheel superimposed over a lightbulb marked switch.

Also generally countries have standardized symbols for switches, maybe the US doesnt so Porsche just used what was available. I'm sure that the standard symbols also changed over the years. EG: On a quick google search the standard light symbols in UK are below: full beam-dipped beam-front fog-rear fog
