Great PCA article.

I just read the article in the latest PCA magazine about a British guy who drove his 944 across Africa. He was finding it unreliable as a DD so decided on one last trip!!!! It's great to read and has some amazing temporary repairs.

I highly recommend reading it if you can get a copy.

I once went on safari in Africa in a Ford Taurus and understand all the issues with lack of ground clearance and crossing rivers!!!!!

Tom don't know if it's the same car your talking about but probably is.Distance driven 15,000 miles/24,140kms 27 break downs.

--And you'll think that some 944s will hesitate before taking their cars on a 500 miles road trip lol.

Wow! Is he really holding that failed a-arm ball joint in place with a strap! Definitely a hero in my book for doing that.

Wow! so much ignorance and xenophobia. I guess, to your credit, the two do go hand in hand.

I'm gonna stick by my first hand opinion about that part of the world. Been there! Thats why guys like in post #9 live here. And to you FransB85..... the middle ages live on in that part of the world. No, I'm sure he didn't force her..... but in his agenda to get attention to his journey , he didn't say no.

I am aware that it there is a certain risk in going on a journey like that, however I don't see how adopting a patronizing attitude towards women would do any good in this matter. My problem is that the 'noble gesture' of protecting women from going to that 'schit hole country' is just a bit... backwards. It is exactly that attitude that has made women 2nd class citizens since forever anyway.
People do nasty ***** to men and women everywhere, also in the 'civilised west'. Most people are a sorry bunch of c*cks, here, there and everywhere.

Also, when he and his girlfriend would, say, climb everest, wouldn't that be very similar? The possible adverse outcomes of a trip like that is greater than a trip to the mall, but I am sure both are aware of that. I don't know about this woman, I'm pretty sure my girflriend would never forgive me if I went on an adventure like that without her.

I'm sure you have your reasons to say what you say, as do I. So we'll probably never fully see eye to eye on this one. So back to the Porsches, then.

On topic: pretty amazing trip he made, no question. I probably would have screwed some plating to the bottom to stop the bits falling off though...

Gawernator and flygeezer resound ignorance and foolishness.
@Flygeezer- Africa is not a country as you said in your "well founded"post. Also, some of us live and pay taxes here and in a few other places because we are successful. Some of us were even born here. So living here in itself does not make "here" better than there. Once again, you make an assumption the basis of your statement.

@Gawernator - there may be parts of the world more dangerous than others, even within the same city you will find differences. So to say that flygeezer's fears are well founded is ignorant and prejudiced. It also rings with chauvinism - implying that the girl needed male patronage and protection.

back to Porsches then ... lest we start talking about school shootings and subway rapes in the "civilized west".

Other than the Porsches, the only thing we have in common Mr ibtisam.jawad , is the air we breath........ I was very blessed that my grandparents immigrated to the United States. I'm also very blessed that the path I took in my life allowed me to see, first hand, most of the rest of the world, including the majority of the countries in Africa. My opinions, like yours, are mine alone. To call me ignorant & prejudice is a reflection of your own weakness.

Mr. Flygeezer, I consider myself blessed and privileged for not having anything in common with you.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I'm glad that you and I expressed ours. I understood your statements to contain ignorance and fear, and merely stated what I thought of them. To dismiss an entire continent in one statement did not seem very enlightened to me.

I also don't see the relevance of your grandparents immigrating to the US to the matter at hand. Is a 2nd generation American more American than a 1st Gen? Are the Native Americans more American than all of us? Are the first settlers and their descendants more American than the ones who came later? Just some questions that come to mind...

Here as in life... to each his own.

It's not all of Africa. Just certain countries.
