how to make your door sound even better when closing

The 944 door latch and striker bolt are both metal and when closing the door it makes that metal on metal sound that i don't particularly like. The 944 door has that nice thump sound when closing but the metallic sound from the latch kinda ruins it.
Newer cars have both the latch and striker coated in hard plastic to eliminate the metallic sound.
I tried to do something similar to the 944 striker bolt; i grounded it down to about 8.5mm and fitted a 3mm wall rubber hose over it ,silicone probably would have been better but i didn't have any on hand. The rubber will probably wear in a few years but is easily replaceable.

Careful with the hose ,on the first one i made blisters on my hand trying to get it on.
The hose i used was 6.5mm ID ,3mm wall and 9.5 mm OD , much smaller than the bolt that is 9.5mm on the threads and 11mm on the straight part that i ground down to 8.5mm .I did that so the hose will stay tight on the bolt , with the hose on your OD should be no more than 11.5mm and no less than 11mm.
Put oil on the threads and use the allen key to screw it into the hose.

Great post, but that is really getting anal about such small things. One thing for sure you must take care of every squeek in your car.

Lol , actually i did take care of all the squeaks in my car , i used foam tape on the back of the air vents,cluster surround and center console, basically behind every plastic bit in the car. On the other hand i also removed all sound deadening from the car for weight reduction
