Headlights wont stay up!?

I noticed recently on a night drive that my headlights start to slowly drop down until I can only see a few feet in front of me. If I shut the lights off, and turn back on, they come up to the correct height. This is a ongoing cycle, and from fully open, to where I cant see takes about 15min of driving. Any ideas? Thanks!

So the motor uses power to keep the headlights in the up position? It's not some kind of mechanical lock? I'll check the relay, I might even have a spare to test. Thanks!

The motor could not possibly use power to keep them up.

Check the nut on the end of the output shaft on the headlight motor. That keeps the linkage on the spline. Or perhaps the splines are worn.

However, this wouldn't make much sense as the motor is not self-calibrating. If it drooped, and was turned off and then on, it should come up past the drooped position. Unless there's an electrical issue and a mechanical issue.

Oh I don't know.

Take care!

no but the motor drives them down, and the relay might not be fully switching, or holding position.

Thanks for that link, I saw it before, and actually forgot about it.

I pulled the relay and cleaned the contacts real good. I jiggled it around, then put it back it. Went on a drive, and it seems to be working now. I went ahead and ordered a new relay to be sure. Maybe there was some corrosion inside? (I am missing the boot/cover). The contacts were a bit dull, but not to bad. If it happens again the next step will be to tear the motor apart, or just put on a known working one. Thanks everyone!

It was late. And what can I say?, I generally have no idea what I'm talking about anyway.

Did you check the analog compression reactor? After that I would check the genuine optic re-insulation motronic embellisher. Sometimes the hexaradiant spiral tangent calculators go bad.

Or maybe you live in a strange place where there is extra gravity?

Take care!
