Doesn't sound like a bad deal.
What kind of shape is it in otherwise? Of course, you should get a full pre-purchase inspection before you buy it. AFJuvat |

the price is right, but just know that 944's can be expensive to maintain, purchasing is the easy part. like afjuvat says, get a ppi from an experienced porsche mechanic before you do anything financial.

If everything checks out then I would say go for it.
Again, and I or anyone else that has had one cannot stress this enough, spend a couple of hundred and have the car inspected. A car can look great and sound great and still have a lot of hidden repairs - or to put it another way, a $3000 944 can become a $6000 944 very quickly if you aren't careful. Best of luck with the purchase, I hope it turns out to be the car you hope it is. We'll teach you the secret handshake when you buy one. AFJuvat |

Why would someone spend the $$ to paint a car they are going to sell, unless they are trying to hide something? A PPI is a definate on this one. Make sure the mechanic checks closely underneath for frame damage. -Just my $0.42 Z.

My 1985 944 automatic was purchased for $3000 in 2-02. Mechanical fix was $3700. Updates & cosmetic stuff brings the total to $8200 as of 7-02. Still need rotors (@140 ea) & pads. Then shocks, bushings, & paint. By then I'll have 10K into a $4500 car. A 944 is only worth what you are willing to spend. Mine will be PERFECT and meticulously maintained because I happen to love the car & the way it drives. It is white, all options work perfectly, it has Carrera wheels & I get compliments daily. It looks way more expencive than it is. But you will pay a price to own such a car. I plan to keep this one many, many years so its worth it to me. To others, I'm an idiot. Sometimes I feel that way. But hitting 80 mph in 2nd usually adjusts my attitude quickly. Who knows, it may become a desireable collectable classic some day, & mine will be one of the best around.
Be sure to get proper insurance... a total is only @ 4000 unless you get specialty insurance through a brokered agreement with a company that iinsures "stated, documented & agreed replacement value. Companys can tell you what to do, or check Porsche club web sites. As all the other responces stated, let a PORSCHE certified mechanic look it over. Joe Mechanic down the street will not have a clue... Good luck. ![]() |

Sounds pretty good. Why is he selling it if he just put all this money into it? Has reciepts? If you are not interested in pursuing, I may be. I have an '86 w/66K, live here in FL, and am looking for a cheap stablemate. Better get PPI.
