Window motor not working
Just had my driver's side door apart to fix the wing mirror and when re-assembling the door panel have found that the window motor doesn't work (worked fine before dis-assembly). Have checked and there is 12V to the motor, and motor getting warm when switch pressed.
Can't see any obstructions to the mechanism / glass. Anyone come across this before and can point me in the direction of something I'm missing? Is it possible that the motor was nearing the end of it's life and just failed? I have replaced the N/S window motor in the past - but you could tell that was failing over a period of time as became sluggish (partly because the mech needed cleaning up / lubing). |

Are you sure that it is the motor and not the switch or the wiring?

I don't believe a switch is at fault . Motor is getting warm when actuated means something is binding in the motor or window linkage.
Cheers, Larry

Thanks for your responses.
At time of writing I was daunted by throught of spending ages manipulating motor / mech assembly out of the door to take a look (spent ages doing this on N/S door a year ago) - and wanted to avoid if poss. As it happens I just decided to go for it (had determined already that wasn't power issue as was getting 12v at plug to motor) and fortunately remembered the extraction / process - got assembly out and then later back in in less than 10 mins including the bolts. What I found was that motor to mech cogs had jammed (dont know why, as didn't think I had touch this). Anyway, disassembled motor from mech, cleaned out 25 years worth of crud, put back together and working fine now. Thanks again. |
