dumb lug nut questions
'87 944 na w/ phone dials
one of the lugs for my phone dials is stripped (probably aluminum - looks like dissolved paper and is really light). need a new one. looked through the PP catalog. got a bunch of questions, here's a few: how can I ascertain an exact match for the lug I have already? I can see PP has diagrams with my car for some lugs (under the "more info" section), but is this really all I need to go by? i.e. can I find precise length/pitch/etc. specs somewhere? does "alloy" mean it is not 100% aluminum? presumably any mismatch in lug weight will skew the wheel rotation that it is mounted on, but will it not affect the wheel opposite? i.e. should not both sets of lugs be matched (in principle)? how much heavier are a steel set compared to the "alloy"? any other comments appreciated. |

I'm confused, can't you just buy another one from PP? If you're wondering if they have to be precisely balanced like rods, then no. If I remember right my dad's 911s use the same ones I do, we use the same soft socket as well. Steel lug nuts don't weigh too much more, but the rotational mass is much different. If you're thinking of replacing that one nut with a steel one I would advice against it.
