Does aynbody have any good links on timing belt adjustment or able to give me a good explanation. The stupid haynes manual just says to take it to a dealer.

You can do it without the special tool (P9201), but it is highly recommended that is you are unfamiliar with the procedure and you don't have the tool to have it done professionally. A timing belt that is too lose or too tight will fail, causing all sorts of valve damage.

crippler,
You can do a search for tips on this BBS, it has been a subject of many posts. I go along with AFJuvat, though. When you turn the motor back to check tension a correct setting is looser than a 90 degree twist & where in the devil do they check with using the crickets. It is tough to twist or use the cricket with the back cover on. One other thing if you've got another 100,000 in the car, get a gauge & calibrating bar. They were around $ 400 a few years ago. It will cost you more to pay a mechanic a couple of times. fty has workshop manual CDs that give instructions. drew1 |

I am looking for info on where to position the belt on the gears. Just want to make sure it is in the correct place

What do you mean 'position the belt on the gears'?

It goes around the crankshaft pulley, against the idler adjusting pulley, the back side on the water pump pulley & around the cam pulley.

Okay, to clarify my question here. I have taken the timing belt off, and also removed the cam tower. I am worried about getting it back on and not having it in the right position, thus throwing the timing off and bending my valves.
