Porsche Crest 83 944 tire recommendations

Getting ready to put some new "skins" on my 83 944, I have 16x7 Fuchs on front and 16x8 Fuchs on rear, I would like to put on some wider tires. Right now I have 225 55 on front and 215 55 on rear, can I go wider without modification ?
Any recommendations on size and brand ?

Be aware that changing diameter can alter your speedometer reading.

Tirerack lists 205/55 for the front and 225/50 in the rear.

I know the racers tend to use a more square setup of 225/50 15 all around and many run fairly wide tires in the rear with a little rolling of the outer lip. The fronts are harder due to the need to be able to turn them and to clear the springs and struts.

16's are a little hard to find in varying sizes these days, but check out the different sizes available in 16 on sites like tirerack.com, etc. and then plug them into the calculator here:

Online Wheel and Tyre Fitment Calculator. Offset, Tyre Stretch and Speedo Error | Will They Fit

and see if you might have any rubbing issues, etc.

Having had a 83-944 with 16'' Fuchs for many years I found out that the best street combo is 205-55-16 front & 225-50-16 rear.Brand of tires can be discuss until you get red in the face since every brand has it's con & pro.Personally my choice was Falken you migth try their site & see what you could fine that will do the job for you. Also there is pass tire thread on here that will give you an idea what to look for.
