Suspension Refresh(Questions)
I am looking to finally after 2 year redo the front suspension on my car. Car is mostly driven on the street, may seen an autocross this year if I can get everything done to it.
So the questions are: 1. Where to get bushings for the front control arms?(Swaybar, control arms) Can I get M030 rubber bushings for my car? (Are refurbing the arms really $500?) 2. Will 200 lb springs work well with Koni Strut Inserts? 3. Are the VW Fox strut mounts okay for the 86 951? 4. List of components to be replaced/fixed: Strut inserts, new front springs, control arm bushings/ball joints. Is there anything else I am missing on the front suspension? A separate project will be to swap out my steering rack as mine is just puking fluid. |
Available here, of course! Porsche 924S/944/968 Suspension - Page 4
Sure you can look around though... 200 should work, I'm at 250 and it's quite a nice ride with the Koni 1038S inserts set to half firm (Koni race shocks rear) Check for tie rod play? Just replaced mine, some inner play and one torn boot. Check your strut mount bearings for play or seizing etc Swaybar bushings? Possible size upgrade? You could get these for cheap http://www.rennbay.com/porsche-944-front-sway-bar-braces-p-125.html |
I will be sticking with stock swaybars for now. In the future I may upgrade to the M030 swaybars.
Tie rod play should be 0 since I replaced the whole tie rods on both sides last year along with my front wheel bearings |
Headed for a common mistake. . .increasing the front spring rate and leaving the rears alone will make the car push. Turn in at AutoX could be particularly bad.
T-bars - much ado about nothing, not that big a deal. |

I must have misunderstood. Thought you were wanting to AX the car. Mods you are contemplating will FUBAR the handling.

Another reason I would recommend 220/250 etc springs... And in the rear either larger torsion bars or replace with coilover spring or both

Billy M;
Consider Polyurethane sway bar bushings and endlinks for both front and rear. This will help minimize body roll, especially around at +15mph cornering. In expensive upgrade(s) Energy Suspension, Prothane and Ricochet make sutable upgrades. Verify (measure with Vernier Caliper) what MM bars you have before you order. Your local Autozone or Lindsey Racing are good sources... Keep us posted, Later... |

Anyways. You're still not addressing the fact that you can't change the front without matching in the rear without screwing things up.
