ICV - rarely fails "Coolant sensor" - I lol'd again, part is thermo time switch, not likely to be bad Time for a new mechanic.

Remember to check your TPS when Throttle plate is closed.
Last week had a simiular issue, checked vacuume - no leaks, then checked my TPS and found the TPS it was loose and intermittent, had to remove TB to calibrate and replace it. Gremlins are tough to catch! Later...

What year is the car? I had the identical problem and replacing the Aux. air regulator and the DME temp sensor did the trick. You may also want to look at the J-hose located under the intake manifold as they become very brittle over time and, since it connects to the Aux. air regulator, a vacuum leak in this area may additionally create this issue.

Mine is an '85 type 2. friday It started acting even weirder, idling at 2000 rpm! I then jiggled the ICV connector and it just settled down to normal idle again. My ICV is new so maybe the connector just needs a bit of contact spray after all! I'll let you know if it acts up again.
