What coolant do you use?

I know it should be phosphate free, but what about silicates?
I currently use STP extended life. The specs for it say it should be fine.
What's a better solution....preferably something readily available.

Not sure if you have the same stuff, but Prestone green coolant, phosphate and silicate free, and it's like half the price of Pentosin xD

zerex G-05

another option.

Sweet, is this another thread where everyone is gonna get pissed off?

I used Zerex G04, recently switched to Pentosin NF.

gtroth 04-14-2013 06:23 PM

I will only use blue Pentofrost NF which I get at Napa. Here is the spec sheet
Audi/VW ZVX 237 105 = Pentosin G001100 = Pentosin NF = G11 = blue.
See blauparts article if interested.

G11 Coolant (Pentofrost NF). If you decide to use it, fill the car with distilled water first and run it up to temperature and then flush it out. It will remove all the old coolant/gunk. Make sure you don't get the G12 (SF) coolant; if you mix NF and SF it makes a jello-like substance.

Shouldn't be. That's just reserved for oil, not all fluids.

I'm thinking of switching to something else.
The STP I use is VW TL 774D approved (G12), and Dexcool. My water pump started leaking shortly after I installed it.... I put the gasket on dry. I want to blame the coolant, since it did not leak when I had just distilled water in it.

Hopefully the Canadian NAPA has Pentosin.... that looks to be the most popular choice.

Volhv 04-15-2013 05:38 PM

Bought some premixed (all i could find) Zerex G05, and a loads of distilled water so I can flush the whole system of the STP. Maybe I will keep the water in there till I am ready to put the bar on the road....... Water has a harder time leaking opposed to coolant..... cut will cause corrosion, and freeze.

Zerex here...
