Garaged 944s - Service Intervals?
How often should a 944 be serviced, if it's sitting in the garage and not being minimally driven?
I'm looking to buy a 944 that for 8 years (!) got serviced only every 2 years (oil/inspection) by a porsche service shop, putting on only 1100 miles during that interval. Is this something I should be worried about, in terms of impact to the engine? Thanks for the insights! |

Sorry, I meant to say -- only minimally driven in that 2 year time frame (just 1000 miles)

you'll need to change the timing belts at a minimum.
some engine seals may have dried out from disuse, the timing belt job is a good time to address those. |

I really depends what you want to do with the car. If you want to drive it a lot then leaking front seals will eventually become a problem. Newer seal composition with synthetic oil could extend seal life indefinitely, but 1980's seal technology with conventional motor oil and it is going to start leaking sooner than later.

Like the above. Also consider that the car has been mostly sitting.. not just engine seals, but any other type of rubber could start to fail if subjected to frequent use. Check date code of tires; consider swapping fluids (gearbox, oil, brake, steering(?)). Shocks?
