Coolant Leaking

Hi everyone

I have been trying to figure out what type of cap I need for this and no one at the part store has been able to help me out. It also seems to be throwing out water coolant from that hole also, could it be that I might need a new water pump ? What are your thoughts ?

The hole you're pointing at in the timing belt cover is to view the timing mark on the cam gear. There shouldn't be any coolant up there.

If there is coolant up there, it's more likely coming from a hose or the bleeder. The waterpump is lower down.

+1 Mike,____Monchemin the plug part # is 944-105-131-00,see diagram # 27.But you could probably find something similar at the plumber shop or hardware store which will do the job just fine. Not sure but I believe the price will be around $6.00 for an OEM one.

Lol, I'll tell you how, happened to me and I was confused for a while trying to figure it out.

Top hose (engine>radiator) was chaffing on the underside adjacent to that hole. Caused drops of coolant to seep onto the timing belt cover seem and onto the timing belt. Belt turning forced it out of that hole. If I had the rubber bung in there I wouldn't have spotted it and it would have probably ended badly. Caught it before the dreaded timing belt got too messed up.

Wow well I'll def have to inspect that hose better then. 1 day before I found out where coolant was coming from, there was a lot of coolant all over my driveway, a good 12 oz. and it seemed to be coming from the passenger side.

What else did you have to do to fix your problem ?

Yeah 944s, I definitely love my car through thick and thin.

Thanks ernie I got that part for cheap

Luckily there wasn't a lot of coolant there in my case I caught it early enough. Most of it probably evaporated from the heat. I just replaced the top hose and belts and cleaned everything inside the belt cover.

First thing is to find where the leak is. It might not be the top hose in your case, could be water pump gasket. Basically any leak that let's coolant into the belt covers will get thrown up to that hole by the timing belt.

I'd check where the water pump is, and the area where the lower radiator hose is (big hose on passenger side). Also the little hose next to it (not near my car so don't know where it goes to).
