extending low side ac port
Hey everyone! I've been moving forward (slow but determined) on finalizing my ac system repair and need some help. Has anybody extended the low port fitting on an early model to inside the engine bay so as to avoid lifting the car up and pretzel-like maneuvers with one's body and hose/fittings, etc. I would love to see a picture or diagram/schematic depicting the unit. I'm not really sure on proper material utilization but I'm attempting to go for a nice factory look, if possible. Thanks!

Patrick,
I did find pictures of the low side port. Seriously, who came up with this design? If you change the belt, check the numbers given in the old posts because NAPA or ??? might have changed. If you really get stuck, mattdavis11 has always had good information. An AC pro tech for years. GL J_AZ

Gaw,
I can always count on your witty comments... ![]() John, I had a local ac shop evac and recharge the system today with great (thus far) results. I replaced the drier this morning just prior to arriving at the shop which performed the following: 1. Evacuated the system for one hour, 2. Filled with oil/refrigerant and ran system for a few minutes, 3. Evacuated a second time for thirty minutes, 4. Recharged system for a second time and checked for leaks. I must say the ac is quite frigid at this point. The tech did spend a considerable time so the $129.00 invoice was well spent, IMO. Thanks to all for your help; I still plan on extending the compressor port at some point.

Go to Carquest and get a 90* R134 fitting. $7. Makes life a lot easier under there.

On my list to do once the system craps out again. In the mean time, I'm not touching it as it's working as it should.

If you have a gauge set with a long hose, connecting to the low side fitting on the compressor is not that difficult (can be done with out jacking).
IF you are using a recharge kit with a short hose then maybe it is a different story. |
