Removing Steering Wheel w/ airbag

Would someone be kind enough to advise how to remove the steering wheel on my 1989 944S2. It has an airbag, so I am a little doubtful of the procedure. I want to discover the reason for the squeak in my steering wheel (only when I turn left) and eliminate it.

Thanks

Michael

First thing to do is remove all power from the airbag circut.

Warning: the aribag module does contain an explosive - handle with care and use common sense.

On the back side of the wheel, you will see a couple of torx bolts (can't recall if they are tamper resistant or not) - remove them and the airbag should come out - CAREFULLY disconnect the wires and set the airbag in a safe location.

Remove the wheel as normal.

Air bag circuits often contain capacitors (energy storage). Let the sucker sit for a while after disconnectiing the battery - just to be safe.

let it sit for 20-30 min. after disconnecting the battery.
