good afternoon
I own a Porsche 944 Automatic 1986, and set it to "Direct" or "D", the car does not engage (it does not move), dismantle the automatic gearbox (it is a vw 010 321 105) and replace old disks by new disks, oil pump, and torque converter and assemble according to the manual, but the car only move in reverse "R"; the direct "D", 1st and 2nd it doesn't work. What is the possible problem? ![]() ![]() ![]() any idea? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

According to the troubleshooting guide in the 944 factory service manual, the symptom you describe is caused by "forward clutch lined plates burnt/worn" or "forward clutch diaphragm spring broken".
The troubleshooting guide is on page 37-17.

we changed the forward clutch diaphragm spring (it was broken) (attachment photo), and we replace all disks worn, for a new disk kit, and assemble the automatic gearbox, but continue with the same problem
the reverse gear works very good, but the other speeds not engage. |

At this point, I would say that it is time for an automatic transmission professional specialist to get involved.
